Let's shake things up, literally. Surfset is all about getting away from the traditional static work out and challenging your body in new ways. Every exercise on the board is designed to engage your core & stabilizer muscles and shock the system to create real change inside & out. The bodybuilder look is out & the lean surfer physique is in. You have to train like an athlete to build an athletic body type, and that means multi-planer movements need to be engaged.
The traditional image of a surfer's body is lean and long-limbed, with tight, well-defined muscles and very little body fat.
A surfer is lean without looking weak, and muscular without the bulk. Defined muscle lines are perfectly symmetrical, and overall body balance creates that inevitable athletic physique. Paddling builds shoulder definition, strengthens the lower back muscles and increases cardiovascular fitness. Duck Diving, through waves builds arm and shoulder strength: Triceps strength in particular. The pop-up maneuver engages the core and pectoral muscles, and helps to build explosive power, using the hip flexor muscles. The actual process of standing and riding the wave increases leg strength, balance, and engages all of the postural muscles.
Core strength: Everything stems from the core. Surfset will turn your abs into a sixpack powerhouse through instability training which requires focus & control. Progression is the name of the game. Our workouts are designed with a built-in ability to continually challenge and push through plateaus.
Burn fat: Intervals of high intensity aerobic training on the board help to increase endurance & torch body fat. We believe that short bursts of high energy exercises help to avoid overuse injuries by forcing your system to continually adapt to changes on a dynamic platform.
Lean muscle: Surfers are the perfect picture of long & lean. Surfset exercises promote compound and functional movements that challenge all of the tiny little stabilizers in your body, along with the major muscle groups to shape and tone while increasing your metabolism at the same time.
Our fitness mission: We don't believe in isolation. We can't isolate our muscles from one another, or our bodies from their environment. Surfset is a full body approach inspired by one of the world most athletic sports, and benefits are not limited to 1 field of fitness. We draw from the real movements of surfing and create workouts that will increase balance, core strength, stability, agility, aerobic conditioning and coordination. Surfset classes are structured for optimal fat burn, muscle build & improved balance. Our 45 min. of surfer-inspired movements structured in intervals to push past plateaus. Imagine combining the cardio benefits of spinning with the muscle benefits of TRX training & the core benefits of working out on a Bosu ball. Now throw in some waves & make it fun.

Who should sign up for SURFSET classes?
Anyone who is looking for a new sense of adventure. Surfers, skiers, bikers, hikers, golfers, tennis players will all benefit from SURFSET. Sedentary people with desk jobs need this class to reawaken their bodies.
If I injured my back can I still sign up for SURFSET classes?
Anyone who has suffered injury to their back, hip, knees or ankles would benefit from our classes. For maximum healing benefits, 4-6 weeks post injury, it is Imperative to reestablish proprioceptive awareness. That is, to retrain your bodies position sense. A classic example of failed body position awareness can be seen after a simple ankle sprain. The pain is usually better within 2 weeks of injury. But without proper rehabilitation balance training of the affected ankle, the potential to re-sprain the same ankle by stepping on a little pebble or slight imperfection on the ground is very high.
We offer beginner classes for those people who are recovering from injury, to restablish communication between the core stabilizers, injured body part and the brain.
Who should not sign up for SURFSET classes?
Anyone who has balance issues due to an inner ear condition or stroke. People with a diagnosis of multiple scerosis, ALS, autoimmune disease resulting in an inflammatory arthritic condition, and or moderate to severe osteoporosis should not take this class.
